Birding Sri Lanka is a Tour Operating Company specialized in Birding and Wildlife Tours in Sri Lanka and India – which also conducts Wildlife and Birding Photography Tours in both the countries.

Having conducted numerous tours, the company prides itself for being the Naturalist Guide of Ambassador Scott DeLisi (American Ambassador in Nepal), Dr. Chan Ah Lak (Photographer) and Sharon Ng (Travel Writer of News Straits Times, both based in Malaysia), David Hosking and Martin Withers, famous Wildlife photographers of United Kingdom and of Juan Miguel Rodriguez Zafra – the widely recognized Wildlife photographer in Spain to mention a few tours.

Birding Sri Lanka is owned and managed by Chandima Jayaweera, more popularly known as Jaya, who has been in the business for 21 years and he keeps on garnering merits for his reliable and commendable expertise towards Birding and Wildlife Tour/Photography services in Sri Lanka. Having worked with three major tour operators in the country, Jaya is the most proficient in the field of mammals, butterflies and dragonflies not to mention his exceptional birding skills.

Managing Director / Naturalist

I would like to introduce myself as a highly accomplished professional with over 33 years of experience in the travel and tourism industry, specializing in bird watching, wildlife guiding, and nature tourism. Educated at Ananda College in Colombo, I began my career in 1992 as a Chauffeur Tourist Guide, earning my license from the Ceylon Tourist Board (License No: C-0327). My career took off at A. Baur & Company Travels Ltd, and I quickly became known for my expertise in bird and wildlife guiding. Over the years, I have expanded my skills, working with esteemed travel companies such as Aitken Spence Travels and Jetwing Eco Holidays, where I served as a Naturalist Chauffeur Guide. In 2011, I was honored as the Most Outstanding Chauffeur Tourist Guide for Nature & Wildlife at the 5th Annual Sri Lanka Tourism Awards. In 2013, I founded my own company, Birding.S.Lanka Travels (Pvt) Ltd, where I continue to serve as Managing Director. My academic achievements include a Diploma in Photography from the University of Kelaniya and both a Bachelor and Master of Business Administration from Aldersgate College in the Philippines. In 2024, I was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Tourism Management from Washington Digital University in the USA.



ASHOKA

Naturalist & Tour Executive

Ashoka has worked as a Naturalist plus tour executive for more than 14 years. He was working in University Scientific projects under Prof. S. W. Kotagama and Dr. Eben Goodale as a field Scientist as well. He is a candidate for BSc in Natural Sciences conducted by the Open University of Sri Lanka. During Ashoka's career, he has given his knowledge for some of the publications as well.
